Eastover home destroyed by fire

June 16, 2013

— An Eastover home was destroyed when a fire broke out just before 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

Columbia fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins said that no one was at the residence at 229 Robert McKenzie St. at the time of the fire but added the house collapsed shortly after firefighters showed up.

“It was totally engulfed when they arrived at the scene,” Jenkins said.

Fire officials estimate the damages at $150,000, and the cause of the fire is still being investigated by the fire marshal’s office.
