SCHOOLS

GILBERT HIGH SCHOOL TEAM WORKS TEAM MEMBERS Ben Bussey, Matt Hall, Dalton Holzheimer and Ben Kyzer won first place in the Team Works competition at the SkillsUSA South Carolina Conference.

LEXINGTON-RICHLAND 5 STAFFER Jennifer Felkel has been awarded the South Carolina Public Health Association’s 2013 Public Health Social Work Award.

ROUND TOP ELEMENTARY SCHOOL is one of three South Carolina schools to be named a National Schools of Character for its commitment to character education and fostering a positive environment for social and academic learning.

LEXINGTON MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS Jacob Almond, Benjamin Brandes , Macy Cope, Madison Haynes, Andy Hu, Elizabeth Jordan, Estelle McKee, Luke Mondeel , David Robertson, Ian Streit and Sophia Washburn have been recognized by the Duke University Talent Identification Program for their performance on the SAT.

COMMUNITY

EIGHTEEN CITIZENS have graduated from the Lexington County Public Safety Citizens Academy including Drew Anderson, Coley Andrews, Robert Bart, Janis Bennett, Jack Bertsch, Gerald Deslandes , Tammy Floyd, Julea Ingold, Cynthia Johnson, Joe McGee, Martin Mullaney, Margarita Ortiz, Richard Pearce, Carrie Proctor, Bill Rawlings, Don Roy and James Snell.

HOLLEY DAVIS & NIA STROTHERS have been named Ronald McDonald House Charities Scholarship award winners.

YOUTH

WHITE KNOLL MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT MAYCIE ALLERS has been named an outstanding soloist at the Virginia Beach Fiesta-Val Music Invitational.

GILBERT HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT ROBERT LARSEN has won first place in the desktop application programming competition at the Future Business Leader of America State Leadership Conference.

LEXINGTON HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT NATALIE PALUMBO has won first place in the Notre Dame High School’s National Film Festival Competition.

LEXINGTON TECHNOLOGY CENTER STUDENT ADAM STEVENS has won the SkillsUSA 2013 National T-shirt Design Competition.

MILITARY

NAVY SEAMAN TYLER J. CURLINGS has graduated from U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. He is the son of Michele M. and Jack M. Curlings of Columbia.

CIVILIAN IDRIS M. BENNETT has enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District, Raleigh, N.C. He is a 2012 graduate of Columbia High School.

MARINE CORPS PVT. MICHAEL A. BUCKLEY has graduated from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island. He is the son of Claude L. Buckley of Camden.

CIVILIAN CALVERT C. GOLDINER has enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District, Raleigh, N.C. He is the son of Mary C. Mullen and Jeffrey M. Goldiner, both of Columbia.

AIR NATIONAL GUARD AIRMAN OMARI J. THOMAS has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Angela and Billy Thomas of Columbia.

ARMY NATIONAL GUARD PVT. BRITTNEY L. FLEENOR has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. She is the daughter of Lorraine Fleenor of Columbia.
