S.C. State House reopens after evacuation due to smoke

— The S.C. State House was temporarily evacuated Monday morning after a fire alarm went off.

Shortly after 10 a.m., the State House was open again.

The fire alarm was set off at 8:55 a.m. from smoke coming from the escalator, said Sherri Iacobelli, spokesperson with the S.C. Department of Public Safety.

About 20 people were evacuated.
