CLEMSON, SC — Clemson is offering a $5,000 for information leading to an arrest in connection with this months vandalism of Howards Rock.
The announcement comes after the universitys police department released video of a white truck arriving at and later leaving the east side of Clemson Memorial Stadium on June 2, around the time when the rock was damaged, according to a release.
The reward comes from private donors, according to the university.
Police think someone broke into the stadium and smashed the rocks Plexiglas case before breaking off a piece of the iconic stone on June 2 or 3. Officers later found fingerprints on the rocks pedestal, which wasnt damaged.
The rock, named for former football coach Frank Howard, sits atop The Hill at the stadium, and is a major part of Clemsons pre-game tradition. Before each football game, players and coaches touch the stone before running down the hill and onto the football field.
If you know anything about who might be responsible for the vandalism, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC or www.sccrimestoppers.com.
