The PGA Tour Canada announced Friday the ATB Financial Classic has been canceled due to excessive rain and flooding in the Calgary area.
PGA Tour Canada president Jeff Monday released a statement earlier Friday that said the tournament would be shortened to 36 holes and get underway on Saturday, but later announced the cancellation of the event.
"Although we announced a few hours ago that we intended to resume play tomorrow at the ATB Financial Classic presented by TELUS, given the increasing severity of the emergency situation the greater Calgary community is being forced to deal with we have made the decision to cancel the tournament at this time," announced Monday.
"We are working with the sponsors, the tournament organization and the Country Hills Golf Club management team to explore the possibility of rescheduling the tournament later this year. Our thoughts are with the families and communities affected by the flooding."
Only 42 players were able to finish at least one hole before play was suspended on Thursday, and the weather prevented any action from occurring on Friday.
