— A 52-year-old Chapin woman drowned in Lake Murray early Friday morning, according to the Lexington County Coroner’s Office.

Lynn S. Clary was swimming with another person at about 1 a.m. at a floating dock south of Chapin when she failed to resurface. Members of the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department’s dive team found her body just north of the dock in 12 feet of water at about 6:20 a.m.

The woman died of drowning, the coroner’s office determined after an autopsy Friday morning.

It’s the second drowning at the lake this week. On Sunday, 17-year-old Waeland Peeples drowned in the lake while trying to swim from a pontoon boat to shore.

Toxicology tests on Clary’s body are pending, according to the coroner’s office. The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department determined that no foul play was involved, department spokesman Erik Murrah said.

As of Friday afternoon, the family had not chosen a funeral home to handle Clary’s memorial service.

Clary’s drowning remains under investigation by the sheriff’s department and the Lexington County Coroner’s Office.
