SCHOOLS

LEXINGTON COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT 1 has received several awards from the SC chapter of the National School Public Relations Association, which recognizes outstanding communication efforts with the Rewards for Excellence program.

ALL 6 of LEXINGTON-RICHLAND SCHOOL DISTRICT 5’S qualifying middle and high school bands have received this year’s Outstanding Performance Award by the SC Band Directors Association, which is the group’s highest honor.

LEXINGTON TECHNOLOGY CENTER DECA STUDENTS competed and placed in the state-level SC Career and Development Conference. In addition, four of those students competed at the international level.

GILBERT HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS have been recognized for participating in the LEED Green Associate High School Sustainability Program. The 10 students are the first high school class in the nation to complete coursework as part of the High School Sustainability curriculum.

COMMUNITY

JUDY WHITESELL has been named the 2013 Lexington County Primary School Division Conservation Teacher of the Year by the Lexington Soil and Water Conservation District. Whitesell is a Gilbert Elementary School teacher.

PATRICK BOOS has been honored with the 2012-2013 Carolyn McLendon Excellence in Teaching Award. Boos is a Performing Arts Department Chairman/Theatre and Literature Instructor at Cardinal Newman.

YOUTH

ERIK DAQUILANEA has won second place in the poster category 2 of the intermediate division of the National Career Development Aspisociation’s 47th annual Poetry and Poster Contest. Daquilanea is a student at North Springs Elementary School.

WADE TOOMEY AND MICHAEL CARABALLO have won first place at the SkillsUSA SC Championship. Both are students at White Knoll High School.

MILITARY

NAVY SEAMAN RYAN C. FINK has graduated from U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. He is the son of Charlene D. and Steven C. Fink of Columbia.

AIR FORCE AIRMAN 1ST CLASS TIERRA L. JONES has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. She is the daughter of Greta Jones of Gadsden and granddaughter of Maggie Rainey of Eastover.

AIR FORCE AIRMAN JEFFREY R. TRIGG has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. He is the son of Jeffrey and Melvia Trigg of Elgin.
