Afternoon thunderstorms knocked out power for about 3,000 Richland County residents and about 300 in Lexington County, according to SCE&G.

Those were the numbers at 5 p.m., just after the storms popped up in the Midlands. One National Weather Service observer also reported 1.34 inches of rain in 15 minutes in Forest Acres around 4 p.m.

Also, a large tree was toppled near the intersection of Mill Creek Road and Corley Mill Road in Lexington County, according to law enforcement reports.
