Lexington 2 to add 17 teachers, give employees 3 percent raises

— Lexington 2 will add 17 new teachers to its classrooms this fall under a spending plan approved by the school board Thursday.

It’s a start on trying to bring down student-teacher ratios that increased in recent years when state aid forced teacher layoffs, superintendent Venus Holland said.

The plan also provides 3 percent increases for the district’s 1,200 employees. There is no tax hike.

Lexington 2’s schools are in Cayce, Springdale, West Columbia, Pine Ridge and South Congaree.
