Hannah Horne, who greeted Midlands early risers as WIS-10’s “Sunrise” co-host, anchored her final broadcast at the station Thursday morning.

Horne, who spent a total of 13 years at the station, is leaving to pursue a career in business.

“I’m a little nervous to try something new, but I’m prepared,” said Horne, who earned an MBA from the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina. “I’ve never been more ready.”

Mary King will replace Horne, who most recently teamed with Len Kiese on the anchor desk.

Horne said the station offered to renew her contract, but “in the end, I did what was best for me ... spiritually, financially, professionally.”

“There’s something in me that wants to grow and be more and have more,” she added.

Horne’s mother recently had heart surgery, and Horne said she would go home to Alabama to “clear my mind and heart.”

The 39-year-old broadcaster, who left WIS in 2008 for about a year to work for the S.C. Film Commission, plans to apply her journalistic skills to the business sector. She went to business school with an interest in financial journalism.

“Outside of reporting, I really enjoyed the management and operations side of things,” she said.

Perhaps Horne will have more time to dedicate to singing. She has moonlighted with the S.C. Philharmonic, the Sandlapper Singers and Dick Goodwin’s Big Band.

“I never thought I’d get the chance to sing as much,” said Horne, who grew up performing in church. “I’ve been so amazed that I’ve had the opportunities and invitations.”
