2 killed in Richland County accidents Friday, Saturday

June 29, 2013

— Two people have died in separate, single-car accidents early Friday and early Saturday morning, according to Richland County Coroner Gary Watts.

William T. Rew, 19, of North Woodlake Drive in Columbia was killed early Friday when the vehicle he was driving left the roadway and struck a tree in the 2200 block of Longtown Road, Watts said. Rew, who was alone in the vehicle, died at the scene from multiple trauma. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.

The second crash happened in the 4000 block of Clement Road near Broad River Road in Columbia, Watts said. The driver was a 33-year-old Hispanic male whose last known address was in Blythewood. His identity is being withheld until his family is notified, Watts said. The man’s vehicle was found around 7:30 a.m. Saturday, but it appears the crash happened 12 to 20 hours earlier. The Columbia Police Department is investigating.
