SCHOOLS

LEXINGTON-RICHLAND SCHOOL DISTRICT FIVE has named Julie Krusen, a biomedical sciences teacher at the Center for Advanced Technical Studies, the District Five 2013-2014 Teacher of the Year. Kim Cash, a social worker at the Alternative Academy for Success, has been named Support Employee of the Year.

RICHLAND ONE VOLUNTEER AND MENTORING PROGRAMS COORDINATOR KATY WATKINS has received the 2013 Robin Burns Volunteer Administrator Award.

LEXINGTON TECHNOLOGY CENTER STUDENTS have won first place in the SkillsUSA South Carolina Championships. The student members include Amber Caviness , Dalton Dunlap, Kaitlin Finklea , Natalie Palumbo , Blake Reeves, Katelyn Taca and Javier Vazquez.

ROCKY CREEK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPAL LYNN C. BOYLESTON has received the Joseph M. Bedenbaugh Administrator of the Year Award.

COMMUNITY

ALIYAH AL-KARIM has been named the 2013 recipient of the Women’s Leadership Scholarship, which is given by Representative Mia McCleod.

LEXINGTON COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT DEPUTY NATHAN REDMOND has been promoted to serve as a deputy in the Warrant Division.

YOUTH

CIARA ALDERMAN has been named a state winner in the National Career Development Association’s 47th annual Poetry and Poster Contest. Alderman is a student at Rocky Creek Elementary School.

TOMMY PAN has won first place in the business and math competition in the Future Business Leaders of America State Leadership Conference. Pan is a student at Pelion High School.

LEXINGTON HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS have been selected to participate in the South Carolina Palmetto Girls State Program. Palmetto Girls State students include Sydney Boykin, Morgan Gobbi , Mary Weston Lawrence, Morgan Lee, Claire Love, Sara Moore, Hannah Wilkie and Natalie Williams. Palmetto Boys State students include Mitchell Bauschka, Justin Bouknight, Jim Brittingham, Matthew Daly, Damon Davis, Thomas Harris, Ryan Hawsey, Matthew Hodges, Daniel Hoppe, Will Hunter, Alex Jezowski, Vikram Krishnamurthy , Jacob McWilliam, Alex Shockley and Steven Strange.

MILITARY

AIR NATIONAL GUARD AIRMAN 1ST CLASS ERIQUE M. BLOW has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Willie Blow of Columbia.

ARMY NATIONAL GUARD PFC. SHAMEKA L. MCCASKILL has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson. She is the daughter of Donald McCaskill of Ridgewood.

AIR FORCE AIRMAN 1ST CLASS RICHARD A. RUDD has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Doreen Smith of West Columbia and the brother of Morgan Henderson of Lexington.

AIR FORCE AIRMAN BYRON A. BROWN II has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Byron Brown and Miranda Mickle, both of Columbia.

AIR FORCE AIRMAN ROBERT W. MACON has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Karen and Eric Macon of Irmo.
