Blythewood man killed in weekend wreck identified

July 1, 2013

— A 33-year-old man has been identified as the victim of a weekend accident on Clement Road.

Cesar R. Alas of Blythewood was the driver and only occupant of the vehicle, coroner Gary Watts said Monday.

Alas suffered head and body injuries when his vehicle left the road, struck a tree and went down an embankment, according to city police. His body was found some distance from the vehicle, in the 4000 block of Clement Road near Broad River Road. In that area, Clement Road becomes Duke Avenue.

He had been dead an estimated 12-20 hours before his vehicle and body were found.

The cause of the wreck appeared to be excessive speed, Columbia police spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons said.
