Four held in June 23 shooting of Gaston teenager

July 3, 2013

— Caleb York Rowell was shot three times in the head and upper body and left to die in woods off Lord and Tucker Courts in Edmund shortly after noon on June 23, Lexington County Sheriff James Metts said.

While Rowell recovers from his wounds at Palmetto Health Richland hospital, four people have now been arrested in the shooting and are being held at the Lexington County Detention Center: Courtney Lynn Posey, 20, of Pelion, a former love interest of Rowell, is charged with conspiracy, authorities said; alleged shooter Bobby George Sightler, 19 of Gaston, is charged with attempted murder and possessing a weapon during commission of a violence crime; alleged shooter Jody James Stukes, 32, of Gaston, is charged with attempted murder and possessing a weapon during commission of a violence crime; and, Xanthe Amanda Smith, 26, of West Columbia, is charged with obstructing justice for allegedly hiding the gun used in the shooting.

The victim was known to all four suspects, and although Courtney Lynn Posey had been involved with Rowell, the motive for the shooting remains under investigation, Metts said.

Posey, Sightler, and Stukes were ordered by a Lexington County magistrate held without bail until trial. Smith was being held on bail totaling $27,130.
