Friday letters: Palmetto Health Baptist needs specialty

July 5, 2013

— What is going on with Palmetto Health Baptist? Providence Hospital and Palmetto Health Richland are both providing the public with new and innovative service. Has Baptist become the step child of Palmetto Richland?

According to The Recorder, the journal of Columbia Medical Society, there must be more support for recruitment and role models for primary care doctors.

Since the other hospitals have been selective in providing services for heart care, cancer, etc., it would greatly serve the public if Baptist became known for primary care. Primary care is not a function of the emergency room.

Doctors could locate in Taylor Street offices and refer patients to specialists at Palmetto Baptist.
