Friday letters: Deen free to say what she wants

July 5, 2013

The First Amendment (1791) states that Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

So why is Paula Deen being persecuted?

She used the N-word, and words are speech. Therefore her freedom of speech is under assault.

Who are the real racists? She admitted that she had used the N-word in the past. Why is she being punished for using the word? Simply because she’s white. That’s right: Paula Deen is being judged and punished simply because she is a white woman who used the N-word.

Using the word does not make her a racist. The real racists are those punishing her for exercising her freedom of speech.

How many other words will we be punished for speaking? Welcome to communist America.
