Columbia police have identified one of the men suspected of a shootout that ended with a 4-year-old girl being hit by a stray bullet.

Arrest warrants have been obtained for 21-year-old Marcus Sinclaire Gantt. Once the man is captured, Gantt will be charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and unlawful carrying of pistol, according to Columbia Police spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons.

The man is thought to be a member of a group on foot engaging in a gunfight with another group in a Dodge Charger about 8 p.m. Monday at The Colony apartment complex along Bailey Street.

One of the bullets flew into the apartment while the girl was watching TV and struck the 4-year-old in the upper body. Four adults were in the home with the girl at the time of the shooting.

Tuesday, the Columbia Police Department tweeted an update that said, “Child shot by a stray bullet @ the Colony last night is 'a fighter,' according to her mom.”

The girl remained in critical but stable condition after undergoing surgery for her injuries Timmons said.

If you see Gantt or know anything about his whereabouts, contact Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC or www.sccrimestoppers. Gantt is considered armed and dangerous.
