Map locates approximate location of the 120.5 mile marker on Interstate 26 in Calhoun County, SC.

— A man trying to push his car off Interstate 26 was struck and killed by a tractor trailer in Calhoun County early Wednesday morning.

The man, identified by Calhoun County Coroner Donnie Porth as Freddie B. Guthrie, 48, of Sylvan Drive, was attempting to push his stalled Ford Taurus off the right side of the highway around 2:55 a.m., Porth said.

Guthrie was half a mile past mile marker 120 when he was struck by a Freightliner tractor trailer driven by Jose Santiago, 43, Orlando, Fla., SC Highway Patrol Sgt. Bob Beres said.

Santiago said he did not see Guthrie and the car in the right lane until the last moment, Beres said. In addition to hitting Guthrie, the truck sideswiped the Taurus, Beres said.
