— Despite being pulled from a pool with no pulse and revived by emergency workers, a Newberry County man died Tuesday night.

LaQuan Andre Parker Jr. did not have a pulse when he was pulled from a pool at a home on SC 34 by friends who noticed he was unresponsive, according to the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office. They quickly called 911, the release states, and a next-door neighbor started administering CPR

The Newberry County Rescue Squad and Newberry County Sheriff’s deputies came to the home, and were able to temporarily revive Parker. He was taken to Newberry Memorial Hospital and was later transferred to Greenville Memorial Hospital, where he died.

“In tragic situations like this, we all pray that quick thinking and responding would provide the necessary and adequate medical attention needed,” said Sheriff Foster.
