RICHLAND COUNTY, SC — A man was arrested around 1 a.m. Sunday after a car chase with a Richland County Sheriff's deputy that ended with his capture and multiple criminal charges.
Benjamin Kearse, 49, was arrested for possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute, DUI and driving under suspension.
When the deputy initially spotted Kearse's car speeding, the license plate was discovered to be connected to a missing persons case. The deputy began following the car and put his lights and siren on, but Kearse did not stop, the sheriff's department said. A chase ensued. When Kerse turned onto Decker Boulevard, he lost control of his car before getting out and trying to run away from the deputy, according to the sheriff's department.
Once captured, Kearse was first taken to Palmetto Health Richland for treatment for injuries sustained when he lost control of his car before being taken to Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
