Friday letters: Bull Street plan unbelievable

July 19, 2013

The Babcock Building on the S.C. Department of Mental Health campus along Bull Street is on the National Register of Historic Places.

— Sometime in the 1830s, the Duke of Wellington was walking down Pall Mall in London. He was prime minister of Britain, victor of the Battle of Waterloo, arguably the most famous man in Europe.

He was approached by a gentleman who said to him, “’tis Mr. Jones of the Foreign Office, isn’t it?” The old duke looked him up and down and replied “If you believe that, sir, you’ll believe anything.”

That is how I feel about the $1.2 billion that supposedly will be produced by the Bull Street project.
