Sunday letters: Help is just a phone call away

July 21, 2013

— My 16-year-old granddaughter has had diabetes since she was 15 months old. This has caused all kinds of problems for her mother and father and for us, her grandparents. But now she is safe.

She can now call the Columbia city manager to come see about her. I went ahead and put the number on speed dial on her cellphone, along with the acting police chief’s number, to call if her blood sugar gets too low and she’s having problems.

Our worries are over.
