— Two people were seriously injured over the weekend when a 2011 Kia SUV slammed into the back of a moped in a rural area in Aiken County, then sped off.

Sandra Huntington, 39, of Beech Island, has been charged with two counts of leaving the scene with great bodily injury, according to a S.C. Highway Patrol spokeswoman.

The two moped riders, neither of whom was wearing a helmet, were transported to a nearby hospital. Their status is unknown.

The incident happened between Aiken and Augusta on a two-lane road early Saturday around 12:30 a.m. Both vehicles were traveling south at the time. Huntington was arrested at her home 15 hours later, the Highway Patrol said.

One moped rider was a 44-year-old man; the other was a 32-year-old woman.
