— One Richland County woman was shot in the upper body after she and a female friend were arguing with two men, who finally pulled out guns and began shooting at them, officials said.

The incident happened around 6 p.m. Saturday in the 1900 block of Joe Frazier Court, which is just off Shop Road and east of I-77, according to Richland County Sheriff's Department spokesman Curtis Wilson.

Wilson said that when the shooting began, the two women were sitting in a parked car. The men began firing "multiple shots at the vehicle," he said.

"The victim attempted to drive off, and more shots were fired," Wilson said. The woman who wasn't shot drove the wounded woman to the hospital, he said.

The incident had started earlier in the day as a verbal altercation and escalated, Wilson said.

Detectives are investigating. "We will have more information as it becomes available," Wilson said.
