— The expansion of the Seven Oaks Senior Center opened Tuesday, providing an additional 5,000 square feet of space for senior programs and activities at Seven Oaks Park.

The Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission facility at 200 Leisure Lane helped pay for the expansion with a Permanent Improvement Project grant from the state Council on Aging. The new addition can be divided into three rooms, and it includes an expanded fitness area.

The Seven Oaks Senior Center provides a number of health and wellness programs. It also serves as a site for the meals program, which prepares more than 23,000 meals per year for seniors in the Irmo and Chapin communities.
