Columbia firefighters responding to St. Andrews apartment fire

July 27, 2013

— Columbia Fire Department responded to an apartment fire at 1055 Aylesford Place near St. Andrews Saturday afternoon.

The fire was caused by a lightning strike and was confined to one, unoccupied apartment, said Brick Lewis, spokesman for the fire department.

He said there was mostly smoke in the upstairs and fire was briefly coming out of a window.

Firefighters are checking neighboring residences to make sure the fire did not extend, Lewis said.
