Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina

— U.S. Sen. Tim Scott is No. 35 on The Hill’s annual list of the 50 most beautiful people in Washington.

Republican Gov. Nikki Haley appointed Scott to the Senate earlier this year to replace former Sen. Jim DeMint, who resigned to lead the Heritage Foundation, a conservative Washington, D.C.-based think tank. Since then, Scott has been canvassing the state, preparing for his first statewide election in 2014.

In an interview with The Hill, Scott said he does have a girlfriend, saying “She’s great. We’ll see how it works out.” But he declined to identify her, saying “Oh no, I’m smarter than that.”

This is the 10th year The Hill has published its list of the 50 most beautiful people in Washington. In 2008, three people with South Carolina ties were listed among the top 10, including No. 2 Brecke Lantham, at the time a staffer for former U.S. Rep. Gresham Barrett, No. 6 Ivy Larsen, then a staffer for former U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint, and Barrett, who was No. 9
