Sumter police investigating second ATM carjacking

SUMTER POLICE DEPARTMENT

— Sumter police are investigating another carjacking at an ATM Thursday night at the Bank of America on West Liberty Street. Two suspects, armed with handguns, approached a man and woman sitting in a SUV and demanded the cash the driver had just withdrawn.

The suspects ordered both victims to exit the vehicle then left the scene in the 2002 Green Ford Explorer with the N.C. tag No. SSE6078, according to a Sumter County Police Department release. The vehicle has not been recovered, and neither of the victims was harmed.

This is the second such carjacking to occur at the bank within a month.
