— A 21-year-old Richland County woman has been charged by Kershaw County authorities with criminal sexual conduct with a 14-year-old Kershaw County boy, Sheriff Jim Matthews said in a news release.

Keri Ann Spires is being held at the Kershaw County Detention Center, awaiting a bond hearing.

The boy’s mother reported the conduct to the sheriff’s office in July, telling investigators that Spires had come to her home in Lugoff on more than one occasion and had sex with her son.

Spires was arrested Friday after being interviewed about the accusations at the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Department.

Commenting about the case, Matthews said that while criminal sexual conduct most often involves male suspects, “... women also need to realize that it is against the law for them to engage in inappropriate sexual relationships with underage boys.”
