— The infant brought to Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital on Friday night with ‘suspicious injuries’ died Saturday. Charges against his father will be upgraded to homicide by child abuse, Richland County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Curtis Wilson said.

The child’s father, Agien Miller, 22, brought the child to the hospital shortly after 5 p.m. Friday.

The 7-week-old boy, who had been in his father’s custody, had injuries “that were suspicious in nature” and was unresponsive, Wilson said.

Miller was charged Friday night ‘with inflicting great bodily harm on the boy,’ Wilson said.

The boy’s mother has not been charged, Wilson added.

The investigation, which now includes the Richland County Coroner’s Office, continues into the circumstances surrounding the infant’s fatal injury.
