For nearly two decades, Dianne’s on Devine restaurant has been a Columbia staple — a fine-dining restaurant, a gathering place, a watering hole. But Tuesday, everything in the restaurant will be sold at auction, from the baby grand piano to the china and silverware.

Owner Dianne Light closed the restaurant in March to concentrate on an expansion of her Di Prato’s Delicatessen and the retail launch of her packaged pimento cheese line.

She said Monday that the auction will be very bittersweet. The restaurant opened in November 1995.

“We had a lot of great years there,” she said. “Good friends. We had a lot of fun.”

Doors of the restaurant at 2400 Devine St. will open at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday with bidding from 10 a.m. to about 3 p.m., said Johnny Benson, owner of Alliance Auction.

Information about the auction items, including photographs, is available at allianceauction.com. Just click on “auctions” on the tool bar, choose “Dianne’s” and then “details.”

The items include restaurant equipment, tables and chairs, botanicals, mirrors and artwork. “The full complement of what a restaurant has,” Benson said.

Even the barstools are for sale. So, have any regulars asked to buy one already?

“They haven’t said that, no,” said Light, laughing. “But I wouldn’t be surprised. Some people were there every night. Maybe I should give them a barstool.”

Which is precisely why Benson has asked Light to stay away from the auction.

“I’m not going anywhere near it!” she said.

Meanwhile, Light is selling the restaurant building on Devine Street.
