Two men arrested before funeral in Lower Richland

August 13, 2013

— Two men were arrested as they arrived at the Bible Way Baptist Church on Atlas Road on Tuesday for a funeral, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said in a release.

Isaac Watson, 19, and Shamari Jones, 19, were stopped as they drove into the church parking lot in “an SUV armed with pistols,” Lott said.

Watson and Jones are believed connected to four recent gang-related shootings in the county and city of Columbia, shootings on Aug. 2, Aug. 1 and July 25 in the Candlelight subdivision in Lower Richland and a shooting Aug. 7 within Columbia city limits, Lott said.

As of Tuesday night, the two men have not been charged in those shootings. Watson was charged with probation violation and Jones was charged with two counts of unlawfully carrying a pistol.
