Sunday letters: Welfare state encourages gangs

— Why should we be surprised at the existence of gangs? Basically, these are children without homes to depend on. How so? Too many moms are children themselves. Uneducated, ill prepared, functionally deplete, they have little to contribute to society. And their children reflect this same background.

Who’s to blame? All of us in the welfare state we now exist in. The Columbia Housing Authority, HUD, Section 8 housing vouchers, food stamps, Medicaid and family assistance to dependent mothers are all part of the problem.
