— An 18-year-old Myrtle Beach man was charged after his former girlfriend told officers he choked her and destroyed her computer when she went to retrieve her belongings from their once shared apartment, according to authorities.

Patrick Ryan Coleman, 18, was charged with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature after officers were called at 2 a.m. Sunday to an apartment at 6700 Jefferson Place, police said.

When officers arrived they saw a vehicle with the victim inside leaving the area and Coleman was running after it, according to the report. Officers stopped the vehicle and spoke to the 21-year-old victim.

The victim told police she had dated Coleman and recently they broke up and she went to their apartment to get her belongings, according to the report. The victim said Coleman threatened to punch her in the face if she went into the apartment.

The victim said she would call police if not allowed inside and she tried to grab her computer, but Coleman grabbed her and put her in a choke hold, according to the report. The victim said she thought she was going to pass out and she scratched Coleman to make him let go of her.

The victim said Coleman then took her laptop and threw it into a puddle, which destroyed it, according to the report. Officers noted there were no signs on the victim of her being strangled.

Coleman told police he choked the victim to control her from acting out, according to the report. Coleman confirmed the victim’s story about the incident and police took him into custody.
