Columbia police seek suspect in N. Main Street sexual assault

August 20, 2013

— Columbia police are looking for a man who forced a woman to perform a sex act on him in the early morning hours of Aug. 17.

The victim told police the man asked her several times to get into his car as she walked along the 5900 block of North Main Street shortly after 5 a.m., interim Chief Ruben Santiago said in a news release Tuesday.

The victim said after she repeatedly told him no, she agreed to get into the car, Santiago said. The suspect then drove to the 4800 block of Muir Street.

The suspect allegedly held a gun to her head and forced her to perform a sex act on him, Santiago said, but was later able to get out of the car after telling the suspect that she was about to get physically sick.

When the suspect pulled the car over to the side of the road, the victim escaped and hid until seeing the man drive away.

The victim described the suspect as being a thin, black male possibly between the 40 and 50 years old with a dark complexion, an oval-shaped face, and a bald head, Santiago said. The victim also said he appeared to have some scarring on his cheeks, possibly from acne, and several gold crowns on his top teeth.

He was last seen wearing a navy blue shirt with a yellow “crest-like shield” emblem or symbol with light colored blue jeans and possibly boots.

The suspect’s car is described as a newer model red sedan, though other details were not available. The suspect should be considered armed and dangerous.
