Moped driver killed in single vehicle accident in West Columbia

— A 56-year-old moped driver was killed Tuesday when he apparently lost control of his moped and ran into a utility poll at 940 Glenn St. , West Columbia, Lexington County Coroner Harry Harman said in a news release.

The driver was identified by the coroner as Gilberto Fontanez of West Columbia, Harman said.

Fontanez was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene of the noontime accident, Harman said.
