Thursday letters: Thanks for helping Salvation Army help kids

August 22, 2013

— A new school year is upon us, and the Salvation Army of the Midlands, through its Clothes for Kids program, helps elementary and middle school students return to classes with confidence and style. With the help of generous donors, we are assisting a record number of students — 248 — with new clothes and school supplies.

Thanks to Columbiana Centre and Columbia Place Mall, where Clothes for Kids stations were displayed Aug. 2-11. Thanks to shoppers for selecting a child’s card, shopping and returning gifts to table attendants. We are able to help kids because of your generosity.

Thanks also to Innersole, a charity that provided new sneakers to 248 local children.

There is something special about starting a new school year with new shoes, clothes, and supplies.

To children beginning classes, we encourage you to listen carefully, learn much and be the best you can be. We hope you enjoy your new clothes, sneakers and supplies and have a productive year.
