SUMTER, S.C. — Police say a 25-year-old man has turned himself in on a hit-and-run charge hours after a woman was killed on a Sumter street.
Investigators said 54-year-old Isabell Shannon was standing outside her broken-down van when she was struck by a car around 9:15 p.m. Friday. Authorities say the vehicle also struck a second car whose driver had stopped to help Shannon.
Police determined Tyrone Dennis was the driver of the car a few hours after the crash and were trying to find him when he turned himself in around 5 a.m. Saturday.
Dennis is being held without bond in jail. It wasn't known if he had a lawyer.
