Arts planner for Aug. 25

Trumpeter Barry Bauguess is the special guest soloist in Brass, Wind and Wire on Friday, Sept. 6, at the University of South Carolina, School of Music. The concert will feature the music of Handel, Vivaldi, Corelli and Telemann and more.

A pre-concert talk begins at 7:15 p.m.; the concert is set for 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall at the USC School of Music, 813 Assembly St. Details: www.columbiabaroque.com or (803) 727-8555


Music lovers are invited to guest artist Pedro Rubio’s clarinet concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the USC School of Music Recital Hall, Room 206, 813 Assembly St. Admission is free. (803) 777-4280


The South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities is looking for pianists for its first piano competition in October.

Applicants must be South Carolina residents in grades 7-10. Teachers of students do not have to be residents of South Carolina. There is a $25 entry fee and the deadline for applications is Sept. 16. Details: www.scgsah.org (under Music).

The SCGSAH Junior Artist Piano Competition, set for Oct. 9, is sponsored by the Bichel Foundation and SCGSAH.


Sandlapper Singers have an opening for a few good male singers.
