— An unidentified park patron prevented a toddler from wandering away from Virginia Hylton Park on Aug. 26.

According to officers, the 3-year-old tried to follow the unidentified citizen who was leaving the park alone. The patron escorted the toddler back into the park, and tried to find the child’s parents. Another park patron, who knew where the child’s mother was, took the child to her.

There are emergency call boxes in all town parks, Lexington Police Chief Terrence Green said, and they should be used when immediate help is needed.
