Matthews-based Family Dollar paid a $602,438 fine for selling improperly labeled bleach, the Environmental Protection Agency said Tuesday.
The fine was imposed for violations of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act. The problem with the bleach stemmed from labels that didn’t match federally required labels.
“The labels for the bleach products were not identical to the EPA approved label,” the agency said in a statement.
Family Dollar worked with its suppliers to resolve the labeling issues, the EPA said.
A spokeswoman for Family Dollar could not immediately be reached for comment.
