Heathwood Hall vs. Christ Church

Game notes: Heathwood Hall opens its third season under former Hammond assistant Jon Wheeler. The Highlanders have fallen on hard times posting just eight wins over the past three seasons Christ Church, on the other hand, is riding a new wave of glory under former Greenville and Riverside coach Don Frost. The Cavaliers are riding a 26-game winning streak the longest in the state. CC has also won back-to-back High School League titles Division II in 2011, Division I last year.
Series history: Christ Church was a 38-21 winner a year ago and sports a 7-5 series lead.
Charlotte Christian, NC vs. Hammond
Site: Charlotte Christian Stadium. Time: Friday, 7:30 p.m.
Game notes: Hammond and Charlotte Christian are both off to 1-0 starts. The SCISA Class 3 runner-up Skyhawks defeated Hilton Head Christian 49-23. The NCISAA Division I defending champion Knight opened with a 28-19 success against Sun Valley Davis King connected on hitting 18 of 26 throws for 295 yards and four touchdowns in his first game as the Hammond quarterback. The senior left-hander was the starter at Westwood last season. Max Woodburn (8-96-0), Doak Fisher (3-85-1) and Cantey Heath (3-62-1) were the top receivers. Blue-chip tight end Cannon Smith also hauled in a scoring pass. Hamilton Rhinehart led the way on defense with nine tackles.
Series history: Hammond knocked off the Knights 21-17 last season in the first meeting of former league rivals in 14 years. The Skyhawks have won five of the six meetings of the team with the lone stumble coming in 1998 after Hammond had returned to the SCISA ranks.
Laurence Manning Academy vs. Cardinal Newman
Site: Billy Chitwood Field, Manning. Time: Friday, 7:30 p.m.
Game notes: For the second year in a row, Cardinal Newman opened the football season with a win over North Central. This time was a bit tougher. The Cardinals need overtime to escape with a 12-6 decision at George Watson Stadium. The visiting Knights shut down the CN running game, but new quarterback Cole Halverson threw two touchdown passes one to Stefone Brown in the second quarter and one to Evan DuBois on the Cards first play in overtime after the defense kept the Knights out of the end zone Laurence Manning Academy opened with an easy 41-0 win over Florence Christian in the Swampcats debut under former Manning High coach Robbie Briggs.
Series history: LMA has won five in a row and six of nine meetings since the Cardinals joined the SCISA ranks in 1997.
Porter-Gaud vs. Ben Lippen
Site: Singleton Field, Charleston. Time: Friday, 7:30 p.m.
Game notes: Ben Lippen debuts under new coach Jolly Doolittle who spent the past 10 seasons at W.W. King ... Porter-Gaud sophomore quarterback Steven Duncan threw for almost 300 yards and five touchdowns, but the Cyclones suffered a stunning 62-49 loss to Class 2A Palmetto Christian Academy in the season opener last week.
Series history: Ben Lippens back-to-back wins in 2008 and 2009 are the only positive outcomes for the Falcons in 12 games against P-G since becoming a member of the SCISA fold in 1998.
