South Congaree voters pick new mayor, council member

August 27, 2013

Brian Jackson

Brian Jackson, son of a former mayor, was chosen Tuesday as South Congaree’s new mayor.

He was the winner among four candidates vying for the post on the ballot Tuesday, according to unofficial results

In a separate race, Barbara Sox was the choice among three candidates to fill a vacancy on Town Council.

Both winners will serve nearly three years in office in the Lexington County community.

The vacancies occurred when Jerry McCormick resigned as mayor and Richard Green as a councilman in May in frustration at what they said is persistent friction among town leaders.
