— Two tea party organizations launched a multi-state tour to “Exempt America” from the federal healthcare law in Columbia Tuesday.

Representatives from Georgia-based Tea Party Patriots, a network of tea party organizations across the nation, and Virginia-based ForAmerica, joined representatives from tea party groups from Myrtle Beach, Laurens County and Columbia in a news conference on the S.C. State House steps.

The speakers criticized the federal healthcare law commonly referred to as Obamacare and called on the audience to urge Congress to eliminate funding for the program, which the federal government is in the process of phasing in.

About 30 people attended the news conference.

An organizer with the tour said the groups plan on holding similar conferences in eight or nine states before Congress returns to work next week.
