I-20 in Aiken County re-opened Sunday after tanker brake fire

jmonk@thestate.comSeptember 8, 2013

— A tanker fire closed down both lanes of I-20 Sunday afternoon for about an hour but the four-lane has since re-opened.

Traffic was retoured from mile marker 7 to mile marker 11 while crews worked to extinguish the fire – apparently caused by some kind of brake malfunction – and clear the road.

A law officer reported that no hazardous substances were spilled.

There were no injuries.

The S.C. Highway Patrol helped local officials by closing off the I-20 lanes and diverting traffic until the situation was under control.
