Woman attacked by shark on St. Helena Island

September 9, 2013

A woman was attacked by a shark Sunday in the waters off Coffin Point on St. Helena Island, a Lady's Island-St. Helena Island Fire District spokesman said Monday.

The woman was attacked Sunday and brought to the Dataw Island Marina, where she was treated, department spokesman Lee Levesque said.

Levesque said the fire district was called to the marina and took the woman to Beaufort Memorial Hospital, where she was initially treated before being airlifted to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

Levesque said he did not know further details about the attack.
