A Charleston family says their family dog saved their child from an abusive caregiver.

Hope and Benjamin Jordan said they suspected something was amiss with their babysitter after the dog started growling and protecting the 8-month-old child when the babysitter visited, according to a police report from the Charleston Police Department.

So the couple left an iPhone under the couch and recorded audio the next time the babysitter cared for the child. What they recorded, they said, was abusive language and noises that sounded as though the child was being hit. That's when the police were called.

According to WCSC Live 5 News in Charleston, Alexis Zanieb Kahn, 22, pleaded guilty to assault and battery Monday in Charleston County Circuit Court. Kahn was sentenced to at least one year in prison, according to the TV station.
