— A burglar entered the back door of a house in the upscale Shandon neighborhood earlier this week and ransacked bedrooms before making off with a tidy haul of jewelry, a handgun and ammunition.

Columbia police continue to investigate the break-in, which apparently happened during the day when the owner was out.

According to a police report, the intruder took two watches – a Seiko worth $350 and a Kagen worth $250 – as well as all the ammunition stored in a large bag. The ammunition consisted of .308 and 9 millimeter bullets.

The gun taken was a black Luger along with two loaded clips.

Also stolen was an iPad whose estimated worth was $400.

The break-in happened in the 200 block of South Woodrow Street, several blocks south of Hand Middle School and about a block north of Rosewood Drive.
