COLUMBIA Three dozen inmates and employees of the Kershaw Correctional Institution have been sickened by the flu, the S.C. Department of Corrections announced Wednesday.

Three dorms at the facility, a medium-security prison located outside of Kershaw, have been locked down and visitation for this weekend has been cancelled.

Prison officials first learned Tuesday morning that one dorm had reported 15 cases of flu-like systems, which included coughs, congestional and high fever. The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control and SCDC officials worked Wednesday to test many of the inmates and employees at the facility.
