Curlewis tops Rowe in playoff in South Africa

Andrew Curlewis birdied the first playoff hole on Friday to top Lyle Rowe and win the Vodacom Origins of Golf.

Curlewis carded a 4-under 68 during his final round at Parys Golf and Country Estate, while Rowe managed just an even-par 72 in the blustery conditions to meet him at 7-under-par 209.

The duo returned to the 18th tee for the playoff, where Rowe's approach found a group of rocks next to a river.

Curlewis, meanwhile, settled his second shot less than 10 feet from the hole and calmly 2-putted for his second straight win and third career victory on the Sunshine Tour overall after Rowe was forced to take a drop and pushed his par effort wide.

"I feel for Lyle," said Curlewis. "I have never lost in a playoff, so I can't say I know what it feels like, but it can't be great. His time will come. He had a great second round, and he will close the deal sometime soon now."

Daniel Green (70) and Ulrich van den Berg (71) shared third at 5-under, while Michael Hollick (71) sat alone in fifth at minus-4.

Wallie Coetsee (71) and Dean Burmester (75) tied for sixth at 3-under 213.
